Angmassalik Around England J. Clarke & G. Hunter   This kayak is very tippy with not much space compared to modern designs. Even so someone managed to kayak around England. It holds nothing back on the errors made and suddenly makes paddling around Portsea Island very tame indeed. 1985
A Practical Guide to Sea Canoeing Howard Jeffs BCU Written in a more notebook style than many. This does work very well though as the book does cover subjects on tides, weather and navigation in very good detail.  Sadly no longer in print.
Argonauts of the Western Isles Robin Lloyd Jones Diadem

Very readable account of kayaking adventures on Scotland’s rugged west coast.

BCU Canoeing Handbook BCU Chameleon Press First printed in 1981 - now in it's third edition. Covers all disciplines of the sport, from the History side to fibreglass construction techniques. Stroke work is given a lot of space with photos where required. Excellent book for all.  Now into its third edition.
Blazing Paddles Brian Wilson   A good account of a solo kayak trip around the coast of Scotland.
British White Water T. Storry   A guide to the 100 best rivers in Britain, 1991.
Canoeing Down Everest Mike Jones Mike Jones Films How life and kayaking has changed since this expedition in 1976. Mike Jones was an inspiration to many inland kayakers and this book shows why. An excellent read to any trip planners who think they have a difficult trip.

Dances With Waves Brian Wilson O'Brian Press The Author's tale of his circumnavigation of Ireland, which he completed in 1990. The distance travelled was 1200 miles and it included a wide range of coastlines including the stupendous cliffs off the West coast of Ireland.
Fundamentals of Kayak Navigation David Burch Globe Pequot Very good read about what the title says but good for ALL sea-paddlers
Learning the Rule of the Road Basil Mosenthal Adlard Coles Nautical A simple book explaining why 'big boats" do what they do.

Reeds Nautical Almanac   Thomas Reed The Bible for many sailors. This book has been around for nearly 70 years and can be found in just about any yacht chandler. It covers many aspects of tidal prediction, navigation markers, ship lights, harbour radio channels and a huge section on the tides of different areas around the world. In some areas it is over the top for us but it then gives an insight on why the sailors do what they do.
Sea Canoeing D.C. Hutchinson Black First printed in 1976 and has been updated a few times. Includes many drawings and comments on different rolling procedures and rescues.
Sea Kayaking John Dowd   A manual for long distance Sea Kayaking.  American way of doing things, a little different to us over here. 1988
Sea Kayaking Nigel Foster Fernhurst

A good introduction to sea paddling from an experienced expedition kayaker.

Sea Kayak Navigation Franco Ferrero Pesda Press Franco Ferrero's slim publication attempts to demystify the black art of navigation in a sea kayak.  Takes the reader through the essentials of tides, charts, the IALA buoyage system and the chart work for open sea crossings.  As Franco says "... it covers what the sea kayakers need to know; no more, no less..."  Now in its second edition and still worth buying if you don't have the first edition.  New version includes GPS information amongst other things.

Sea Touring J.J. Ramwell Mapro Publishing First printed in1976 and has been updated a few times. Can be difficult to find. Covers all aspects of sea kayaking, well worth a read if you can find a copy.
